Has Kyiv become a space center?!
The second summer school on astrophysics and cosmology brought together young scientists from all over Ukraine!
On August 25-29, Kyiv became a place where science met space. Bringing together more than 30 students and graduate students from different parts of Ukraine, the Second Summer School of Astrophysics and Cosmology “Through the Milky Way — into the Universe” became a platform for the exchange of knowledge between Ukrainian and world scientists. Over the course of five days, participants listened to lectures from world-renowned scientists: Carlo Bacciagalupi (Italy), Charles Cockell (Great Britain), and David Spergel (USA). Carlo shared the latest theories on cosmology, Charles explained how we can travel through galaxies, and David discussed how the universe is evolving.
For many students, this was a chance to talk to people whose research they had only seen in scientific journals. “It’s incredible to listen to a lecture and then ask questions to a world-class professor,” the participants share.
The practical sessions were one of the most interesting parts of the program. Students worked with real astronomical data, analyzed it, discussed it with experts, and even created their own small projects. This format allows students to see how science works in reality, not just in theory.
The second summer school, “Through the Milky Way — Into the Universe,” became an important milestone in the formation of the scientific community in Ukraine, as well as in helping young researchers feel that they can fulfill their potential here, at home. In addition to knowledge and practical experience, participants gained new ideas, connections, and inspiration for their future work in science.
The organizers are already planning to expand this platform for further initiatives, which should become an important step for the growth of Ukraine’s scientific potential.
Space is not only about rockets and satellites, but also about people who believe that the future of science can be created here and now.
